Kenpo Lower Belt Testing (Kelowna)

The backbone of Avatar is a martial art system known as Kenpo, a style of Chinese kung fu. This style has constantly evolved for over 700 years, and through the persistent work of a series of Kenpo teachers, has been made thoroughly practical to the needs of the modern world.

Tracy Kenpo is apparently the original Kenpo style imported to North America by the late Edward Parker. The Tracy brothers learned the system from Ed, and apparently kept to the original version of the art, as Ed Parker evolved his own system of American Kenpo. Originally a pure kung-fu style, Kenpo has, through the work of a number of respected Tracy Kenpo stylists, evolved into a pared down style adapted to today's world. My immediate teacher, Ralph Chinnick, is probably the most influential, and respected Tracy Kenpo teacher in Canada.

Kelowna Kenpo Belt Testing

Yellow Belt Requirements - perform the 10 techniques to the satisfaction of the instructor. Demonstrate a basic ability with the front, side, back, and round kicks
Orange Belt Requirements - perform the 30 techniques AND the Yellow belt 10, to the satisfaction of the instructor. Short Form I kata required for this belt also.
Purple Belt Requirements - perform the 30 Purple Techniques, AND Yellow and Orange. Short Form I, Long Form I and Short Form II, required for the belt as well.
Blue Belt Requirements - perform the 30 Blue Belt Techniques, AND Yellow, Orange and Purple. Short Form I, Long Form I, Short Form II, Long Form II, and Short Form III, required for the belt.

These four belts represent the "basic" Kenpo belts. After these belts, the focus of the program changes, and the requirements change slightly as well.
