I hold a black belt in Sifu Samirs combat reaction. Combat reaction is a nationally recognize martial arts system in MMA. I trained with Samir Saif for eight years and garnered three black belts from him. I have competed in BJJ, submission grappling, muay thai kickboxing and mixed martial arts.
I have received a blue belt in BJJ from pedro vianna of the Brazilian top team. I am currently working towards earning my purple belt.
The system of submission grappling I coach is based on BJJ, Japanese jiu-jitsu, shoot wrestling, judo, Greco-roman wrestling and freestyle wrestling. The program is taught from standing with wrestling tie-ups to shoots and throws, to pins and submissions. Submissions are taught in series linking one submission to the next giving the competitor many variations of submissions to choose from in any position.
Submission grappling is a fast form of grappling and relies on technique over strength. Because no gi is worn submissions need to be executed with precision and grace rather than brute force.
Submission grappling is a way to unify body mind and spirit. Competition is one avenue to self-discovery. Martial arts teach many things about yourself and in the end it is not about winning or loosing but what we learn as a person. If we can lay our egos aside and be in the moment while training and competing a new vitality fills you body, the mind becomes clear and a feeling of ease overcomes you. We seek that moment of perfection but it comes very rarely.
It seems the harder you try the longer you struggle the further away you get from that perfection. The key is to let go of expectation do the best you can and try to be in the moment not judging your performance not worrying about the outcome. Let nature take its coarse. And have fun.
